Manufacturing & Logistics Cluster

Manufacturing and Logistics, the creation of and movement of products from inception to the consumer does indeed 'propel the pipeline of commerce' both nationally and globally!
This cluster is comprised of employers ranging from 12 employees to several hundred; from metal fabrication, plastics, food and chemical to national and regional distribution hubs for food products. It is the largest and most comprehensive of the three clusters. Formerly separate clusters, Logistics and Manufacturing were merged in 2004 to complement the definition and significance of supply chain management.

At the secondary education level, this cluster supports the MERIT (Manufacturing, Engineering, Robotics and Industry Technology) program at Danville High School along with the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering curriculum. At the county secondary level, the cluster supports NIMS certification. At the post-secondary level they provide scholarships for NIMS training, Manufacturing Technology and Engineering degrees.

Hiring projections from this group indicate that from January 2007 to January 2009, the following positions will be in demand: Truck Drivers/CDL,  Machine Ops/CNC, Warehouse Selectors, Assemblers - Production, Fork Lift Operators, 1st Line Supervisors, Warehouse Loaders/ Stockers/ Handlers, General Labor,  Maintenance (Industrial Machinery), Engineers, and Outside Sales Representatives.
